Update an Existing Assessment as Your Child’s Needs Change
An updated report for children and young people who already have established assessment evidence but need current documentation that reflects their present stage of education, learning demands and support needs.
The aim is to build on useful existing evidence rather than repeating a full assessment unnecessarily.

Young people with an existing assessment
Where the underlying profile is already established but the documentation no longer reflects the current educational context.
Previous evidence + current needs
Existing reports are considered alongside current learning demands, educational circumstances and support needs.
An update is not always enough
Where the existing evidence is no longer sufficient, a full reassessment may be the more appropriate route.
When the Profile Is Established but the Demands Have Changed
Children and young people develop, educational expectations increase and the support that was appropriate several years ago may no longer reflect what is needed now.
Moving to a new stage of education
The young person may be approaching secondary school, sixth form, college, university or another significant transition.
Learning demands have increased
Greater independence, workload or examination demands may make previously manageable differences more noticeable.
Recommendations are now dated
Earlier recommendations may no longer fit the young person’s age, educational environment or current ways of learning.
Current documentation is needed
A school, college, university or other setting may need more current information about an established learning profile.
Start With the Evidence You Already Have
The first step is to establish whether the existing assessment provides a suitable basis for an updated report.
Send the existing report
Previous assessment evidence is reviewed to understand what is already established.
Consider what has changed
We look at the young person’s current stage of education, learning demands and the reason updated documentation is needed.
Clarify the current picture
Additional information is considered where needed to understand how the established profile relates to the young person now.
Updated report
The existing evidence and current context are brought together with updated recommendations where appropriate.
Which Route Does Your Child Need?
The existing evidence is still useful
Best where the young person’s underlying learning profile is already well established and the main need is to update the current context and recommendations.
- review of existing assessment evidence
- current educational context considered
- updated recommendations where appropriate
- £400
New assessment evidence is needed
A full assessment may be more appropriate where the existing information is insufficient, the profile needs to be explored in more detail or current psychometric evidence is required.
- full cognitive assessment
- learning and attainment measures
- diagnostic conclusions where supported
- detailed written report
- £650
Ask About an Updated Report
Send us the existing assessment and some information about what has changed or why updated documentation is needed. We can then confirm whether an update is appropriate.
Before You Enquire
Does my child need to already have an assessment?
Yes. This service is designed to update existing assessment evidence rather than establish a learning profile for the first time.
Can any previous report be updated?
Not necessarily. The existing evidence needs to be reviewed first. If it does not provide a sufficient basis for the current question, a full reassessment may be recommended.
Will my child need to complete all the testing again?
Not automatically. The aim is to build on suitable existing evidence. Where substantial new testing is required, a full Cognitive SpLD Assessment may be more appropriate.
Can the report reflect their current school or college needs?
Yes. The purpose of the update is to consider how the established profile relates to the young person’s current educational context and demands.
How do I know whether we need an update or reassessment?
Send the existing report and explain what the new documentation is needed for. The evidence can then be reviewed before deciding which route is appropriate.
